April 18, 2007   Urgent Need!!

Dear prayer partners:

Monday, just as I arrived home from the normal run to town to go to the bank, post office, and do some of the week's shopping, the engine of our car started clattering. Since I already had the evening committed to other things, I waited until Tuesday am to take it to the mechanic. I received a call from him just before lunch today to inform me that the compression level is low on three of the four cylinders, and that the cost of even looking for the problem would probably be more than what the car is worth.

We just spent about $250.00 to get it ready to pass inspection about three weeks earlier. I made a quick trip into the garage this afternoon to see what was available in the way of a replacement car. The best deal they seem to have at the time is a car just a bit bigger than the one we have (had) and 11 years newer at a cost of about $11,000.00 at the current exchange rate. A smaller car, about the same size as ours, was about $1500.00 more, though a year newer and 20,000 fewer kilometers. Both cars are diesel.

I need you to pray with us about the proper decision to make. The larger car has a larger trunk, among other things, which would come in handy when picking up or taking people to the airport, something we do several times a year.

I also need you to pray with us about the finances. I'm not sure just how much we have available to start with, but I am sure it isn't much compared to the total amount to be paid.

A prayer and praise update should be forthcoming shortly with some encouraging news about the church.
