Urgent Prayer Update # 5   Thank you for your prayers!!

Dear Supporters and Friends:

We praise the Lord you for our friends and prayer warriors!!   You are a tremendous blessing.   Thank you for praying for the work of church planting in Argentina.

Let me give you and update of what is happening at the church.     On May 5th 2009 the government authorities and local judge closed the Betel Baptist Church down for lack of having a permit for public use.   On the May 6th we were able to get permission by word of mouth to use the building as long as we work on upgrading the building to the city code.     A lot has happened since then.   We have send out four updates requesting prayer for the situation.

Just a week ago I happened to run into the city inspector downtown.   Daniel is in charge of all the city inspectors.   Daniel was not very happy about our building.   He told me that he went by personally to look at our building.     He was very rough and threatened to close us back down any day now and not allow us to use the building for any events.   I assured the city inspector that we are working on the situation and ask him to give us some more time.   He did not promise me anything.   Later on I called Pastor Owens and told him that I got "beat up" downtown.  This encounter with the inspector was a challenge.    We are in a great battle to keep the church and Bible College open.       Please pray!!

We are working on all kinds of paperwork to start get the church approved for public use.   I praise the Lord for some key men that are helping me with this difficult process.    Rest assured that by faith we will get the church approved some time soon for public use.

Great news!!  My Uncle and his wife are coming to Tucuman on the 2nd of September to help me install a drop down ceiling at the church.   The drop down ceiling is an urgent item that the city code requires that we have in order to pass inspection.    My Uncle may come with a work team from BIMI to help us with this project.  This is a great blessing to me and a tremendous boost.

Before my Uncle comes we need to fix the church roof.   This will take a lot of work but it can be done by faith in the next few weeks.

The reasons for the roof work:

  1. Main reason is that the roof leaks in many places especially at the lower end.
  2. The roof was not installed correctly originally – it has very little slope or grade and the water does not run down correctly.
  3. The roof was installed way to low – it should have been a lot higher.
  4. During the services when we use the sound system – the sound vibrates against the roof and creates a problem to amplify the sound.
  5. If we put the roof up higher it will give the auditorium more space since we will be able to have balcony space on the second floor.
  6. It will make the auditorium look a lot nicer and neater – especially with the drop down ceiling installed up at the 18 feet line.

In order to build the walls up with all the steal columns, etc will take a lot of work.   Maybe two to three weeks of work.   We would like to have the wall built and the roof moved up and installed before the work team comes from BIMI.

The materials will cost $9,100 peso ($2,394.73 US dollars).   This includes the hollow bricks, bags of cement, smooth rock, sand, steal bars, wire, nails, and the tin roof sheets.

The labor cost, if I put a team of 6 experienced men, on the project would be $10,800 pesos ($2,842.11 US dollars).  This team will work for two or three weeks to get it done.  This team will also have their own insurance as far as coverage if somebody falls and gets hurt.

The cost for building up the wall for the roof is a lot more that I was planning.  I would like to go forward.

Please pray for me, I’m super busy with this project.

We serve a great Saviour.  For me the work here is exciting and rewarding every day.

Thank you for all your love and help!!
