Urgent Prayer Request Update # 3  May 23, 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters:

On May 5th ’09 the municipal authorities closed down the Bethel Baptist Church here in Tucuman – Argentina.    The reason for the closing is that the church had not passed an inspection for public use.    Just one day after the closing we were able to get permission by word of mouth from the director of the DIPSA department to open the church back up on a temporary basis until we pass the inspection.    We have given the city officials our word that we will get the repairs done as soon as possible in order to meet the city code for the building.

On Tuesday the 12th of May the Fire Department Inspector showed up at the church to inspect the building for emergency evacuation.  The inspector Castillo was very friendly and offered his help to get the Security Department to approve the church.   This inspector asked us to install 5 (we currently have 3) fire extinguishers in the auditorium, install 3 (we currently have 6) emergency lights, and put a new door on the entrance that swings out instead of inn.   All we lack is to purchase 2 fire extinguishers and a new steel door.   I plan to work on these items in the next few days.

We are still waiting for another inspection from the health department to get our bathrooms, kitchen, floors, electrical work, and ceilings approved.   Hopefully they will come by some time soon as tell us what we need to do.

Thank you for all your prayers.   Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time.

With the help of Daniel Maldonado a Christian architect we have been able to find out how much it will cost to do the necessary repairs in the bathrooms, kitchens, electrical work, and drop down ceiling.   So far the total cost has been $11,500 US dollars.  The church here has taken up some offerings and also some dear friends of ours have responded with some funds.   Praise the Lord!!

With the help of a group of men at the church we have been working on electrical work.  All the electrical pipes need to be covered up with cement.   It takes a lot of time but we are making slow progress in getting all the electrical pipes covered up.   With the funds that came in so far we have been able to purchase all the materials to get this work done.

Please pray that the city officials will give us more time to get the repairs done at the church.  More time is needed because it takes time to raise funds and also we are using volunteer labor to get the work done.    Please pray for this request!!

May God bless you richly!!
