Dear Friends and Supporters,
Trip to Belen, Catamarca
During the first two weeks of January, a group from our church here in Tucuman traveled to the city of Belen, Catamarca. The group that traveled consisted of our recent graduates, Soledad Guerrero and Pablo Dias with his family. The trip to Belen took eight hours by bus. They had to go through two mountain ranges to get to this city. Here is a report from Soledad on how the trip went and the needs that they saw.
We made a trip here in Argentina from Tucuman to the province of Catamarca to “a town” called Belen. There a student from the Bible college lives. A family from the church and I were invited by Pedro Carrizo to get to know his hometown and help him in his home church. We stayed for two weeks. When we arrived, we were surprised with Belen. It was a large city of 30,000 people and not a little town as we had thought. There was a lot of idolatry because of a lack of knowledge of the Bible. We went out soul winning, and the people opened up their homes to us, anxious to hear God’s Word. Over 47 people were led to Christ.
We visited a nursing home, and many were saved. With tears in their eyes, they asked us to stay longer and tell them more about God’s Word.
We also had two events with children. We invited the children within a one-block area, and we were surprised at all the many children and mothers who came. Over 40 showed up, and they all asked Jesus to save them. At the end of each event, we would say goodbye, and both the children and mothers would ask us to come back. They enjoyed learning songs about God.
Brethren, we tell you this because we were left with a tremendous burden to start a work in that city. So far, it is fertile ground because there haven’t been any Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons there. They only know Catholicism. To be honest, there is a great need everywhere; but the Lord put a great burden on our hearts for that area, and we hope to count on your prayers.
This is an example of a city were the Gospel has not been preached. The people’s hearts are wide open, and they are begging for us to come back. There are many more cities just like this one in need of someone to go and tell them the Good News! This testimony shows the zeal and impact the Bible college graduates can have. It is exciting to train these people and then see their hunger to reach their own people.
As you can see, the Bible college is VITAL for training nationals so that Argentina can be evangelized. Please pray that the Lord would supply the necessary funds to purchase property on which to place the Bible college. As of right now, the Bible college is located on the very cramped church facilities (approximately 6,000 square feet). The students live where we should be putting Sunday school classrooms. The Lord could use you to be a part in winning Argentina for Christ! We long to have a larger student body so that more graduates can go out as these did and start works where no one has gone. Won’t you pray with us concerning this urgent need?! Won’t you ask the Lord what He would have you do to be a part of this tremendous opportunity?! “By Faith, Let’s Go Forward!”
For souls,
