Dear Friends and Supporters:

Broken-Ankle Operation

Praise the Lord! The operation was a success.  On Thursday evening I received a call from my bone specialist.  I had asked him to try to get the operation done as soon as possible on my broken ankle.  He told me that he called around to different clinics, and eventually he found a slot in the operation room at the Clinica del Pilar here in San Miguel de Tucuman.  He scheduled the operation for Friday, November 4, at 3 p.m.  Liesl and I arrived at the clinic at 2 p.m. They let us pull our car into the emergency entrance so I could get out and not have to hop around very far.  At the entrance they found a wheelchair for me. Praise the Lord! They ushered us up to our room quickly.  They gave us a private room that had an extra bed for my wife to sleep on. This was an extra special blessing.  They even had toilet paper in the bathroom and an air conditioning unit in the room.  We waited until 4 p.m. before they took me to the operating room on the fifth floor. This was a first time for me, so I was nervous. The surgeon took my cast off, and then they pushed me into the operating room. I was able to hop onto the operating table and joke around with the different people who were present.

Before I knew it, I was sound asleep, and I woke up when they finished the operation on my right ankle. They found out that the fibula was broken in two places. The doctor put in a support and three screws to keep everything in place.  When I woke up, he had already put a Velcro cast on my foot.  I was numb from my waist down during the operation.  It took almost all night for the numbness to go away.

At 11:30 the next morning, the doctor showed up and told me I could go home.  He wants me to keep my foot in a cast for the next 45 days. I’m still in some pain, but I am excited that it is all over. I just need a few days to recuperate. We were able to give Gospel tracts to everybody who crossed our path.

Annual Big Day

Sunday, November 6, was our annual Big Day as far as an attendance drive.  Our goal was 1,500 for this day.  In the past we would have 1,000 kids show up for Sunday school.  This year we did not have the funds to bring the kids in for Sunday school.  We had only 68 show up for Sunday school.  I was able to show up 20 minutes before the evening service was to start. The church was already full, and we were having problems finding a seat for everybody.  We only have 400 chairs, and our average attendance is close to 400 per Sunday.  I was able to see our faithful soul winners come in with group after group of first-time visitors and van-loads of people from their designated areas. The church just kept getting fuller and fuller.  We ran out of chairs and had to ask the teenagers and children to give up their chairs for the adults. We eventually took all the children and teenagers out of the service in order to free up enough chairs for all the adults who showed up. Many had to stand up outside or in the aisle during the entire service. The final numbers for the day were 760 in attendance, 71 first-time visitors, and 57 saved during the invitation. Praise the Lord! This was a great victory.

I'm proud of all my kids. They all worked so hard to bring first-time visitors. My son Benjamin prayed and fasted all week for his route and his desire to bring first-time visitors. None of the people he visited or who promised to come to church came, but when he went to pick up his people, somebody came out of a house asking who he was and what he wanted. This teenager was searching for answers. He wanted to come to church, and Benjamin invited him to come.  He came; and, praise the Lord, he received the Lord as his personal Saviour.  He wants to keep coming to church. My wife had 14 promises of new people. One lady came for the first time. We had 40 people show up from the area where we live, with 9 first-time visitors. This was a great turnout for this annual event.  Thank you for your prayers!

Our Housing Need

Let me give you some news about our need for a house. We still have not purchased the house that we have picked out.  In previous notes we mentioned the exciting news about the house and property that we found that Mr. Juan Luis Arisio has for sale.  Mr. Arisio has agreed to sell us the house and property, but because of complications we have not been able to sign.  During the beginning of this year, Mr. Arisio agreed to let a friend of his put up six greenhouses on the property to grow lemon trees from seeds. This friend of his, Engineer Miguel, has since put up six greenhouses and moved a family into the house that we are planning to purchase in order to guard the greenhouses against theft.  Mr. Miguel wants to use the house for his greenhouse project, and Mr. Arisio wants to sell the house to us. Since he values the friendship that he has with Engineer Miguel, he has decided to wait a few months to be able to think through the project and decide what he is going to do.  We are hoping that he will agree to sell the house to us. I was able to talk to Mr. Arisio today, and he begged me to wait a few months so he can work things out with Engineer Miguel, and then we can move in.  The house and property will be sold for US$52,000. So far, a total of $46,000 has been given towards this need. Praise the Lord! This is a cheap price. We have been looking for the last few weeks, and we cannot find anything at a lower price.

We would like to thank you for your prayers and support! The work of reaching Argentina for Christ is going forward.  You and I need to go forward and get more done here in Argentina. Our prayer is that you will partner with us to do great things for God in Argentina.  May God bless you richly!
