Salvation of Anna
A Staunch Roman Catholic
Pastor
Jose Miguel is renting a storefront building out of his personal salary. He is
starting a church 120 kilometers from the city of Tucuman. On this particular
Friday, close to 20 people came to his 8:00 p.m. service. After the service he
was not satisfied and felt that there was more work to be done. He usually
sleeps on the floor of the storefront building at night. So at 10:00 p.m., he
walked 15 blocks to the downtown square by himself and started to lift up his
voice like a trumpet to preach to the people that were sitting or eating in
restaurants around the square. (I was able to introduce him to open-air
preaching just over a year ago when we started the church in that city of 8,000
people.) For the first year the church met on the downtown square for public
services because they did not have the funds to rent a building. On this
particular Friday night, he found himself preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ
in the open air.
Across the street was the local downtown Catholic Church. A lady was listening and walked out straight toward Pastor Jose Miguel. When she got close to his face, she started screaming at him saying that everything he was preaching was lies. She also started to give her opinion of Evangelicals. Eventually this lady left, but she was very upset. We eventually found out that her name was Anna.
Eight months after this happed, Pastor Jose Miguel was going soul winning in a certain part of the city, and a family that regularly attended the church started to tell him about a man named Sr. Parache that was suffering from serious depression and health problems. This man wanted the Baptist preacher to come by and talk to him. He was desperate for some help and attention. So Bro. Miguel went to the address given to him and knocked on the door. To his surprise, Anna, the lady who had chewed him out at the downtown square, opened the door and was very upset to see the Baptist preacher. She was furious and slammed the door in his face. Sr. Parache yelled out for Bro. Miguel to come in, but he was afraid to go in and did not know what to say. He was scared to death.
Eventually Sr. Parache came out and invited him in, so he went in and sat down at the kitchen table. They gave him water to drink, but he was afraid that it was poisoned. He talked to Sr. Parache for a long time about his need for a Saviour, and eventually he and his daughter got saved. Praise the Lord!! His wife Anna just sat there and listened.
Bro. Jose Miguel was invited almost on a weekly basis to go back to this family. Every time he went he was treated very well. A few months later Sr. Parache passed away from pancreatic cancer. After the funeral, Anna and her daughter invited the pastor to come to their home. On this occasion she confessed that she had gotten saved on his first visit when she had slammed the door in his face. She asked for Christian literature to study and a Bible and also wanted to come to the new church that he was starting. Praise the Lord for a happy ending to this story.
We praise the Lord for this preacher boy, Jose Miguel. He has been faithful for the last two years in starting this church. This work is still struggling and in desperate need of a church building. In spite of all the struggles, God is blessing this work greatly, mainly because of the man of God who is faithfully working with the people and loving them.
This is good news. An elderly lady that lived in La Cocha was moving out of town. She was looking for somebody to live in her house. She just offered her house to Bro. Miguel and his family. They now have a four-bedroom house with a bathroom, kitchen, and large patio on which to hold services. All this is rent-free. They are jumping for joy that now they will be able to move to La Cocha with the entire family. Please pray for the funds for the moving expenses!! We are excited for this preacher boy. Our prayer is that God will bless this church with many new souls saved and baptized. Thank you for your prayers!!
